Advanced Coastal Assessment in Oualidia's Lagoon

The field mission organized by the Faculty of Science Chouaib Doukkali University in the Oualidia Lagoon encompassed a multifaceted approach to environmental assessment.

Using DGPS technology, the team meticulously measured the evolution of the sandpit, gaining insights into its dynamic changes. Simultaneously, an echo sounder was employed to create a detailed bathymetric map of the lagoon's channel, providing critical data on underwater topography. To complete the picture, an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) was used to profile water currents, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the lagoon's hydrodynamics. This integrated methodology not only contributed to a thorough scientific understanding of the lagoon but also supported its sustainable management and conservation.
DGPS

In this field mission, state-of-the-art equipment and materials were employed to ensure accurate data collection and analysis:

  1. DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System): DGPS technology was used to precisely measure the evolution of the sandpit. DGPS provides highly accurate location information by correcting standard GPS signals for errors, making it ideal for tasks that require precise spatial measurements.

  2. Echo Sounder: An echo sounder was utilized to determine the bathymetry of the Oualidia Lagoon's channel. Echo sounders use sonar technology to measure the depth of water bodies, helping to create detailed depth profiles and underwater topographic maps.

  3. ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler): The ADCP played a crucial role in the field mission by providing data on water currents. It uses acoustic signals to measure the velocity and direction of water flow at various depths, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the lagoon's hydrodynamics.
